A deeply affecting film, Justin Kurzel‘s Snowtown, is no doubt an incredible piece of Australian cinema. Brutal scenes of horrifying acts are hard to sit through and you’re left with a devastating sense of hopelessness, but the mastery that brings the history to life is brilliant. The cinematography, despite the subject matter, is beautiful. The gifted acting is compelling and a remarkable feat of naturalism. The cast, excepting Daniel Henshall as John Bunting, were locals found in South Australia. Luke Pittaway as Jamie Vlassakis is phenomenal. The film deals with shocking events in a scarily realistic portrayal; Snowtown is a moving piece of cinematic art. We’ll be on the look out for Kurzel’s next film and for Pittaway’s next move…
